Stephen King News - because I don't care about anything else

Well, well, well......

I have returned....

( credit for gif )

People who have been following this blog for the past few years know I basically disappear every summer and I apologize for that. This summer has been notoriously worse because I travelled quite a lot and I got promoted at work so I've been busy living out my career dreams ~~~

So let's check in with the summer so far shall we? We've had some insane trailers coming out, some interesting movies have premiered and lots of great old and new movies added to Netflix and Shudder. I also got cable and so have spent most of my time watching things like America's Got Talent and Dr. Phil and letting my brain get melted. I REGRET NOTHING!

I actually haven't watched a horror movie in months? I think the last one I watched was when I re-watched Get Out with Mitch. I'm missing out on a lot and I'm pretty bummed about it but then I get home and I'm like ahhh yes, "my daughter is my mother is my uncle who's a sex predator" ...SIGN ME UP. But I am recognizing my bad habits and trying to move on....."trying" being the important word here...

Let's talk about some horror news I've been excited about lately:

First up of course is IT, it's crawling closer and closer and we just got our third trailer which looks incredible. It premiered during San Diego Comic Con and honestly, I'm trying not to let my expectations get too high but holllllyyyyy shiiiitttt does this movie look scary or what?! Joe Hill recently saw the full film and said it was one of five scariest films he's ever seen. I MEAN HOT DAMN! I am absolutely going on opening night and I am ready to get my pants scared off of me.

The adaptation is brought to us by director Andy Muschietti and stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise.

In this new trailer I like that they showed the adults not seeing what's happening to the kids, they just turn a blind eye as all of this is happening and at first you think it's because they're dumb adults but soon realize the town is doing something strange to them. I'm so glad they're including this because it's such a great part of the book where you feel such fear and frustration. We hear Pennywise talk and it's perfect. We get even more balloons. We get an extended look at that terrifying scene of Georgie in the cellar. We see what I hope to be that horrifying refrigerator scene with the leech like creatures. Also that score is just so incredible and jarring. WE JUST SEE SO MUCH WITHOUT GIVING TOO MUCH AWAY AND I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Check out the final trailer here and let's start counting down the days until IT premiers in theatres on September 8th.

Speaking of Stephen King, Mr. Mercedes premiers next Wednesday (August 9th) on DIRECTV and I'm hoping iTunes the next day for those of us without fancy cable. The trailer has given me a lot of hope that for once a Stephen King TV show will work, and early reviews are positive so woohoo! The casting is spot on and the vibe is a match for the book. I'm really excited for this and here's the trailer which premiered recently:

Executive produced by Stephen King, David E. Kelley and Jack Bender, Mr. Mercedes follows the story of a serial killer taunting a retired police detective. This trailer has got me hyped and I'm totally going to re-read this book this weekend.

The Jigsaw trailer came out a little while ago and I am 100% onboard. I've never been a huge fan of the Saw franchise. I used to be really sensitive to torture scenes in horror movies but two years ago I actually watched Saw for the first time and it was incredible! I would like to actually watch the whole franchise before the premier of Jigsaw.....challenge...accepted? Maybe? Next week?

One of the highest grossing horror franchises is coming back with a bang and it looks like it has a lot of the stuff people love about Saw with some fun new twists. Directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig, it premiers October 27th. I'm going to try and convince my coworkers to go on a work trip to see it for Halloween week.

Check out the trailer below

Lastly - Eli Roth and AMC have been incredibly busy lately bringing us the horror content we deserve. AMC will be creating three new horror anthology series - the first is a horror/sci-fi mix called Shock Theatre which the incredible Greg Nicotero will direct and produce. Every week a new episode will pay tribute to those B movie classics we all love.

Teaming up with A Fish Ladder, Chris Hardwick's production company, AMC will also be premiering a show called Underbelly which will take a hard look at the dark side of pop culture like fan obsessions, greed, vanity etc. This one is intriguing as I have no idea what kind of format this will be and if it's just going to be hella depressing.

Then there's Wicked West coming from Jason Blum, obviously from Blumhouse, which was will be a non-fiction series about some of the most horrific and true tales of the wild, wild west. This is super awesome as I am a huge fan of the gritty old west and all those depressing but insane stories.

Lastly, what I'm most excited for is Eli Roth's new show. We all know Eli Roth is a massive horror nerd and this show will be a 6 part series about the history of horror. "Sadly, we lose more of these masters every year and with them go their stories and experiences. This show will serve as a record for future generations..." Eli commented. This is such a solid idea - obviously we've lost some horror greats in the past few years, most notably to me Wes Craven and most recently George A. Romero so this show sounds like a really thoughtful idea.

Also huge shout out to AMC for bringing us horror nerds from real quality programming lately!

And that's it for my news wrap-up. Hopefully I'll be back on this thing more now that summer is coming to a close. And hopefully I watch some more horror movies because my life is lacking miserably.

Stay spooky!

Stephen King, Split, George Romero and other news!

Guys,

I failed.

I made it what...two weeks? Not even? Of writing three times a week. IN MY DEFENSE...work took a turn (for the good!) and I've have been throwing myself into that. And as much as I love you and this website, I do not make a dime off of this. And someone's got to pay for all these horror movies I watch! And that is me. I pay. Most of the time. Although, I am working on something with Morbidly Beautiful which is pretty cool. You can check out my article over there right now showcasing the amazing women of the Scream franchise, Scream Article

ANYWAY

Here I am....let's talk about some good old fashioned horror news shall we?

Obviously this wouldn't be Horrorbound without a Stephen King update, and this master of horror has seen IT....and he liked it! And we can trust him. He's super vocal when he doesn't like something. Just the other day I saw him casting shade on twitter about The Shining. Producer of IT, Seth Grahame-Smith let everyone know on instagram what King thought by sharing an email:

Steve asked me to pass along that he saw a screening of IT today and wanted to let everybody know that they should stop worrying about it as the producers have done a wonderful job with the production.

Honestly, I cannot wait for this fucking movie. It hits theaters September 8th and I am counting down the FREAKIN' DAYS. Also, I am currently re-reading Under the Dome and I truly forgot how addicting and wonderful this book was. I feel like when I tried to watch the TV show it tainted my memory of this actually amazing story.

Speaking of IT, a newly updated listing has popped up on the internet saying that the filming for the second half of the IT movie begins on March 17th, 2017 which is kind of insane considering they're not even waiting for box office numbers to jump right in. BUT I AM HERE FOR IT!

In Split news, it remains amazing and I am smug as hell, but we also have a release date - coming to Digital HD on April 4th and on Blu-ray and DVD and On Demand April 18th. So if ya'll wanna get me a birthday gift.......it's on the 21st.
But the best part about this DVD release is the features - deleted scenes, a look at the making of the film, AND A NEVER BEFORE SEEN ALTERNATE ENDINGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

In podcast news Mick Garris has a new one for us called Post Mortem where bi-weekly he delivers us great interviews with horror icons. Mick Garris is of course one of my favs because he's tackled Stephen King adaptations including The Stand. He also brought us Psycho 4 and directed Dead of Summer. Garris also brought us the amazing anthology series Masters of Horror which was on Showtime. He's a passionate, knowledgeable host.

The first one was Rob Zombie and it was amazing. He was so candid and funny as always. This weeks' features John Landis and Joe Dante and while I haven't listened just yet it sounds amazing - they discuss politics in horror. Go download on itunes now!

And lastly, I saw this trailer for an upcoming documentary series called "Untold Horror" and it's genius. I can't wait! This will cover all those projects that were never made and will feature interviews with filmmakers like John Landis and George Romero. They'll talk in detail about the projects they almost made. And just hearing about a few of them in the trailer made me so angry - SO MANY COOL THINGS COULD'VE BEEN MADE.

The series was conceived in 2015 by Dave Alexander and Mark Pollesel and asks the questions whatever happened to that movie? Together, along with Bob Barrett and Kevin Burke, they'll uncover exactly what those never-seen projects from those great horror directors were really all about.

Check out the trailer below. As of right now there's no premier date but I'm crossing my fingers it comes out soon.

Alright that's it for now!

Sorry for all the yelling - I'm in a weird mood.

Stay spooky!

(Hopefully I can get back to my three a week schedule when things die down. But for now we're back to sporadic posts. But did you really expect anything less?)

Frightful Friday - Stephen King, The Purge and Alien!

WELCOME TO FRIGHTFUL FRIDAY!
You guys...I have had a week. I am so glad it's Friday night. I have a horror movie playing which hopefully I stay awake through and then I plan on doing nothing all weekend but make my way through my Netflix horror movie to-watch list. I also want to go see Get Out. But even though the movie theater is a ten minute walk from my house, I find it incredibly hard to find the energy to get there. But I've been craving movie theater popcorn for like a month now so I think that will help.

Let's jump right in - a lot has happened!

First off, and most important - we got a surprise announcement that changed my life forever....10 episodes are on their way for a TV show called Castle Rock based around the fictional Stephen King town.
OH and if that wasn't cool enough....it's from Hulu and Bad Robot. AKA JJ ABRAMS AND STEPHEN KING ARE REUNITING!!!!!!!

It's being called a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King universe. It will "weave an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland." It will be an original story, claiming the "first-of-its-kind re-imagining".

Castle Rock appeared in 1979 in The Dead Zone and keeps popping up, including 2014's Revival. The name itself is taken from a fictional mountain fort in Lord of the Flies. What else is set there? Oh you know, just Cujo, Needful Things, Gerald's Game, and The Stand just to name a few....SO MANY CHARACTERS AND STORIES. Fun side story - when my parents and I were driving to Florida one summer when I was about 15, I didn't realize Castle Rock wasn't real and I asked my parents if we could drive there. After looking at a map for a long time (the internet was not such a go-to back then OKAY) I realized Castle Rock was fake.

Anyway, it's being executive produced by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason who will also be the writers. Sources are saying it will "intertwine characters and themes from the works of Stephen King" and "subsequent seasons will feature a new set of characters and will tie in to previous characters and themes."

Right now there's no casting or premier date but production will begin this year.

THIS IS SO FUCKING EXCITING!!!!!!!! I don't why this Stephen King upheaval is happening this year but I am so goddamn here for it.

Watch the teaser trailer they released here:

There also lots of Alien Covenant news coming out as the movie creeps closer and closer. We got our first full cast photo:

And FOX released a sort of introductory prologue clip that introduces us to each character and lets us know that all of these people are on this ship because they are headed to colonize another planet. The crew is made up of romantic couples and of course their AI Walter.

This clip got me SO AMPED for this movie. I cannot wait to see this in theaters. Although I will admit I completely forgot James Franco was in this movie and it caught me off guard. I really can't stand him. Hopefully he dies quick?

We also got one more still of the film showing the crew arriving at a planet after receiving a distress signal.

Alien Covenant is released May 19th.

Remember last year when I got SUPER bummed that they wanted to turn The Purge franchise into a TV series? Well it looks like that idea's been put on the shelf because Blumhouse Productions has announced that they will be teaming up with Universal Pictures for another Purge film. A fourth in the franchise that will be released on July 4th, 2018. Obviously we don't have any casting news or a title but we do know writer and director of the first three Purge films James DeMonaco will be returning which is an amazing thing to happen. And I have full trust that this will be another amazing addition to the franchise. Purge is quickly becoming my favorite franchise. Except Scream. And Final Destination. But you know what I mean.

Obviously lots of others great things are happening in the horror world, and some not so great things (the Friday the 13th remake is once again cancelled) but these are my three favs and what I'm truly most excited for.

See you tomorrow for SPOOKY SATURDAY!

FRIGHTFUL FRIDAY - Stephen King, Get Out, Stranger Things, and Halloween

Hey guys!
Welcome to my new and improved layout of the blog, and by layout I mean attempt at posting way more often so I've given myself a strict schedule. And by attempt I mean....ya'll have been with me for awhile now and you know I am terrible at stuff like this. But if I want to move this blog to a real domain by the end of the year I need to work harder. I will also need help. BUT....let's worry about that later.

Here's the new schedule:

And since it's Friday....it's time for my wrap up of the horror news from the week. This is super specific to my tastes and not very helpful. But that is no surprise to ya'll.

First up?

Stephen King has seen Gerald's Game. I REPEAT...Stephen King has seen Gerald's Game. Which I may have talked shit about a few posts ago. But King is putting his seal of approval on this so now I'm finally starting to get excited.
Directed by Mike Flanagan (Hush, Ouija sequel) and funded by Netflix, Gerald's Game is of course based off of the book by the same name, released in 1992. Gerald's Game is from one woman's perspective as she lays handcuffed to a bed after her husband died during some sexy time.
And here's what he had to say:

Oh my dear Stephen. You better be right. You've never let me down before....

Coming next week is the much anticipated film Get Out, the directorial debut from Jordan Peele and ohhhhh boy does it look good. It got a lot of great reviews from the festival circuit and people are really starting to hype this thing up. Get Out follows Chris as he visits his girlfriend Rose's family for the first time. He's invited to a weekend getaway in the family home upstate and at first the family is overly accommodating which Chris reads as an all white family trying to deal with their daughter being in an interracial relationship, but soon realizes something more sinister is going on. BUT OMG WHAT IS IT?! Every time I watch the trailer I just get so excited. I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

Also there's no news or anything about this film, I'm just super stoked it comes out next week you guys. Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, and Bradley Whitford.

IT LOOKS SO SCARY

HALLOWEEN IS COMING....
And there's lots of info pouring out all over the place so let's try and make sense of it all. First of all John Carpenter, who is going to be executive producing this bad boy, went on Facebook and announced the director.

So you say you want a Revolution?
You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again?
Well so do I.

David Gordon Green will be directing and Danny McBride will be co-writing it with Gordon Green. I am here for this trend of giving comedy directors horror movies! Blumhouse will be producing. Carpenter mentioned that it was actually McBride and Gordon Green who sold him on the idea of this rehash based on their pitch. I mean...woooow.

"David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.”

McBride and Gordon Green recently spoke with Cinemablend and dropped the bomb that this won't be a remake as we all suspected but actually a continuation of the story. They will be focusing mainly on the first two movies and going from there. They also promised to do a "straight-up horror" film. MUSIC TO OUR EARS RIGHT?!

Look forward to this arriving October 19th 2018. Only a year and a half away, I say, confidently, sobbing.

 STRANGER THINGS

During the Superbowl we were treated to a trailer for Stranger Things season 2. And there's a fucking massive monster in there that made me so happy I made Mitch re-watch it about 5 times. LOOK AT IT!!!!!!!

But we have to wait until Halloween which feels like forever away but also gave me a great theme idea for my epic work Halloween party.....

Anyway, let's wrap up the news...first up:

Netflix has released five new images from season 2!

So many exciting things!!!!!!! We also know that Eleven is back because we see her in the trailer, and we all kind of assumed she would be based on the ending of season one but now we have confirmation. And she has a cute new 80's hairstyle!

We have two new kid characters joining us: Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery but we're also going to see some new adults, one being Linnea Berthelsen who is playing a young woman living outside of town who is tied to the lab. The one I'm most excited about is Sean Astin who is playing a former classmate of Joyce and Hopper.

I can't wait to see what's happening and is Will still puking up those slugs? And WHAT IS THAT GIANT MONSTER?! And what's happening with the lab? AND GHOSTBUSTERS COSTUMES! AND MORE 80'S REFERENCES!

IT'S ALL SO EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway,
That's it for my weekly wrap up of my personally and selfish curated horror news. Will you be going to see Get Out next week? Any theories on Stranger Things season 2? And what exactly is going to happen in this Halloween film...Halloween 3.0...if you will? Leave a comment!

Stay Spooky!

Chucky, Rings, and my lump

Well hey there! I sort of bailed on everything but let me explain - instead of New Years Scream, Mitch's flight got screwed up. He flew all the way to Vancouver only to have the plane fly all the way back to Edmonton and then BACK TO VANCOUVER AGAIN. All because we had a little snow fall. Our city doesn't handle winter well. We're actually in a salt crisis right now and all the sidewalks are icy as fuck. I digress, I went and surprised Mitch at the airport with beer but because of all the delays and what not we didn't get home until 11. So we played two games of crib and then went to sleep.

THEN I went back to work and had an appointment with a doctor to take a look at a lump that's growing out of the side of my face. I'm convinced it's the twin I absorbed in utero coming back for revenge. But the doctor does not agree and I will be getting it surgically removed from my face on the 19th. (I'm still convinced they'll find teeth and hair inside of it)

SO clearly I've been distracted with my body continuously falling apart BUT I have some time now as I'm at the brewery while Mitch does a Saturday brew, so let's talk about some of the horror news that's come out:

RINGS

We've got a final trailer, we've got a new poster, and we are creeping ever closer to the premier of Rings.

How great is that poster? LOVE IT.

And there's the trailer. I have to say I'm more on-board after seeing this trailer. I can tell I'm going to enjoy it but I can also tell the CG is going to annoy me. There's a lot in that little trailer.  BUT I'm still here for it and you can watch it in theaters February 3rd.

Mitch will not be watching this with me as his school took him to see The Ring in the theater when he was young and it traumatized him. Which, by the way, what kind of school takes young children to go see The Ring????? And why didn't I go there? Also it's ironic as he's dating me and I am basically Samara's body double. But okay.

Speaking of Samara, coming to Shudder on January 26th is the face off we've all been waiting for.....

SADAKO VS KAYAKO

Coming exclusively to Shudder (go subscribe to them if you're not already. $4.99 a month for basically a netflix of curated horror...it's amazing.) They did a quick review of this film on Shockwaves the other day and it sounds like it will be a tone of fun. The Grudge vs. The Ring...I mean....come on...
And remember how great the marketing campaign was? The instagram family photos? The baseball game? So great.

You can watch the trailer over at Vulture

CULT OF CHUCKY

My boy is back.

We've heard the rumors, we've seen the photo, and now we know it to be completely true. Chucky 7 is happening and Don Mancini is about to start filming in Manitoba. Oh, and best news, it will arrive in time for Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!! Filming begins on January 9th and Alex Vincent will be playing grown up Andy again, and Nica will be back played by Brad Dourif's daughter Fiona. AND...AND...Tiffany is back. JENNIFER TILLY IS BACK. And not just a cameo, seems like she's playing a pretty major role in the plot.

Universal released the announcement video and it's pretty great.

I'm already planning some sort of Chucky themed month long party for October.

Continuing on the Chucky route....Bloody Disgusting just brought attention to a great video that's popped up on youtube. It's a VHS Screener from 1989 when Child's Play was headed to VHS. See, back in the day studios would send VHS Screeners to video shops to convince them to buy their VHS and sell it in their store. But Child's Play went above and beyond and made a great video where Chucky himself brags about how much money the movie made, takes shots at Freddy and Jason, and reads all the great reviews it got back in the day. There's some footage from the movie and some behind the scenes footage and a song.....there's a song...and it's about Chucky...and I can't believe I'm just hearing it now. My life is changed.

Watch below

Alright, that's it for me today. I've got an idea for an upcoming challenge but I'm still working on it.....i'll be right back....

Stay Spooky!

Murder Crows, Alien Covenants, and Michael Myers?

It's a very gloomy and rainy Saturday here in Vancouver and I'm up very early with tooth pain, because this is the bane of my existence. So let's talk about some horror news from the week!!

HORROR NEWS OF THE WEEK WRAP UP

Right now somewhere in the world (New Zealand I think?) Ridley Scott is filming Alien: Covenant. We've heard lots of gossip and chat about how this film will be and we've all seen some great concept art. But today we get our first officially released shot from set. The photo is of a production monitor and shows Katherine Waterston laying against the wall with a weapon against her leg:

Alien: Covenant if of course the sequel to Prometheus which was released in 2012. The new film will be the second in a trilogy and is set on a remote planet where the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is of course...not what it seems.

The cast will be made up of Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterson, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Alex England, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez.
In a recent interview, Michael Fassbender who will be returning as David, mentioned that the sets have "an old school element where things look battered..." And when asked about David returning, Fassbender said "He is creepy. And he's back in a whole new way."

Oh, and! Scott has mentioned that we will be seeing all the fan favorites; the egg, facehugger, and chestburster. SAY IT AINT SO THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL!

Rated a "hard R", look for Alien: Covenant next year on August 4th.

If you've read this blog...you know I absolutely adore Stephen King. BUT...I cannot stand the obsession with making Stephen King stories into unnecessary TV shows. But low and behold, here comes the next one:

In 2014 King put out the first book in a new trilogy (the third coming out next month) called Mr. Mercedes about a psychopath who wants to blow up a concert filled with thousands of people, mostly young girls (it's a One Direction type band). Bill Hodges, a retired detective, is our lead who is sent mysterious mail from someone threatening a massive attack and must try and stop this from happening.

Now it's being turned into a TV series by the dude who created Ally McBeal and Boston Legal....David E. Kelley. His only toe into horror is that he wrote the Lake Placid movie. Attached as the stars are Brendan Gleeson from 28 Days Later and Anton Yelchin from Fright Night. It's going straight to series with a 10 episode order and will premier in 2018.

All I'm going to say is....WHY? WHAT IS THE POINT? The books are amazing and a thrill ride to read (now I really want to re-read this before the final book next month) and it will not work as a TV series.

ANGERRRRRRRRR

Also, something a little fun....
Here in Vancouver we have a famous crow called Canuck. He can be spotted by the red band that's around his ankle and he's known for being incredibly friendly but also a bit of a pain around here.

Canuck is constantly fucking with the police by flying into their police cars and trying to steal the keys off of the keyboards, he tears down police tape. Canuck has also gotten onto the sky train before and gone for a ride, attacked a cyclist, and tries to appear in news interviews by landing on reporter's shoulders. He's kind of the best.

Canuck is in the news again this week because after the VPD responded to a car fire in a parking lot, they were confronted by a man armed with a knife. The man came running at the officers who then shot him and took him into custody. Canuck decided to help out by grabbing the knife, which is an important piece of evidence, and tried to fly away with it. Oh, Canuck, you adorable murder crow.

(this is not the knife from the crime scene, this is another knife that Canuck found. He seems to really like them....)

AND NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS OF ALL....

Michael Myers is coming home ya'll!!!!!!!!!! After launching in 1978, spawning 7 sequels, one remake with its own sequel....it's finally coming back.

Only this time it's in the safest hands - Jason Blum (founder of Blumhouse) working with franchise producer Malek Akkad and Miramax and Trancas International Films.

Oh yeah....and John Carpenter himself is signed on as an Executive Producer. Jason Blum describes him as the "Godfather" of the project. Carpenter, at the press conference, said "Halloween needs to return to its traditions, I feel like the movies have gotten away from that...Michael is not just a human being; he's a force of nature, like the wind. That's what makes him so scary."

Obviously this is all in its earliest stages but Blum mentioned that the film would be produced on a modest budget, which Carpenter prefers. "38 years later, I'm going to help to try to make the tenth sequel the scariest of them all." It's also rumored that Carpenter will be composing the music for the film which would just be the cherry on top of this perfect cake.

So yeah, that's pretty amazing. It's been a good week in horror! I'm going to venture out into the rain and go dive into the $5 bins at Best Buy to see if I can find any horror goodies, and also pick up The Witch.

Stay spooky!

The Rocky Clown Exorcist Show - I'd watch it?

Hello fellow spooks,

Friday the 13th has come and gone. Sadly, the only one we get this year. I spent mine on the couch watching Red Dragon and reading Hannibal (I'm going through a Hannibal phase...again). I also watched Silence of the Lambs and got emotional about how perfect that film is. I re-watched Texas Chainsaw (no massacre) and hated it even more than the first two times. So I should probably stop watching it. I've got some horror movies geared up to watch and blog about, so bare with me. I did just pick up Joe Hill's new book The Fireman so I kind of just want to do nothing but read that right now.

But I'll break the silence with a bit of horror news:

Insidious 4 announced!

Insidious 4 will be hitting theaters October 2017 which feels like a really long time from now? But still exciting. Lin Shaye will be back as our favorite parapsychologist Elaine Rainer. Leigh Whannell will write the film with Jason Blum and James Wan in the producer seats. It will be directed by Adam Robitel who made the great film The Taking of Deborah Logan. Which makes me want to re-watch that and do a post about it because it was pretty phenomenal.

Honestly, I'm thrilled. Unlike Sinister, Insidious has managed to maintain a good story line throughout with some genuine scares. Of course, none of the sequels/prequels come close to the original but they're still a lot of fun and I'm not sick of it yet. So keep them coming!

Check out my review of Insidious 3 here
(also side note - don't google 'insidious fan art'...there's some weird shit down that rabbit hole)
Don't Breathe!
A trailer has dropped for the new film that we've been hearing about for AGES; Don't Breathe. It's released on August 26th and tells the story of three teenagers who break into a home of a blind man who supposedly has a lot of money hidden away. But the blind man turns out to be a bit of a psychopath and they find themselves locked inside the house trying to escape with their lives.
It's produced by Sam Raimi, who of course brought us Evil Dead, and stars Jane Levy, Daniel Zovatto, Stephen Lang, and Dylan Minnette.
Watch the trailer here but heads up they show A LOT of the film in there so if you don't want to be spoiled by another horror movie trailer who can't tell subtly from their own ass, don't watch it. Just wait for the film.
Clown gets a US release!
If you haven't had the chance to watch Clown yet...DO IT.
Clown was first started as a fake trailer that allegedly got Eli Roth's attention in 2010. Jon Watts uploaded the trailer and pretended Eli Roth was producing it. He ended up getting his wish because Roth decided to go ahead and produce it. And in 2012 the movie was filmed with Jon Watts directing.
Two years ago it was released in Europe but was never given a North American release...until now.
Luckily Dimension Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment swooped in and saved the day and now you'll be able to see it in theaters and on demand on June 17th.
I will definitely be going to see it in theaters as the copy I watched was not legal and was a little blurry. But from what I could squint at I LOVED IT. And I mean, ya'll know I'm a Roth fan so take my advice with a grain of salt. But this movie is SO GOOD!!!
The premise is about a father named Andy who puts on a clown suit and makeup to perform for his son's birthday but of course, the suit he rented came from a creepy guy and so when Andy tries to take the suit and makeup off...it doesn't come. He's stuck within the clown suit. His personality also slowly begins to change and Andy must try to break the curse of the suit to be free forever.

GUY ITS SO GOOD!! There's this one scene that like...ugh...I wanna talk about it so bad but I don't want to spoil it just yet...but let's just say....it blew my mind....
You'll laugh when you see the film. Or you won't...because that's a pretty fucked up scene.

Rocky Horror and The Exorcist!
Fox has released two new trailers today and both of them are important. To me. Mostly, just me.
The first being for their new adaptation of The Exorcist. Watching the trailer, it's not what I expected but I'm still intrigued. I'm super hesitant though. All the horror TV shows I've been excited for lately have been such a flop and I'm worried this might be another...
Watch that here
And The Rocky Horror Picture Show which will be broadcast live on Fox this October!!! I'm INCREDIBLY excited for this. I've watched all the live musicals that TV has been giving us these past few years but this one....THIS ONE. They describe it as a "re-imagining" though which is basically code for "don't be mad at us, we made a lot of changes". It will be directed by Kenny Ortega and has Laverne Cox in the lead role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter...WE ARE NOT WORTHY YA'LL.
Oh, AND Tim Curry will be in it!!!!!!!!!
Watch it here
Alright that's it for this time! Till the next...
Stay spooky~!

In which I am stressed and blab on about Stephen King a lot

Hey guys,
I'm still alive, sorry for the lack of updates. What with the new pup in the house, worrying about having to move soon, constant money struggles, and a busy few weeks at work...I haven't found time to watch any horror films. And believe me I'm devastated about it. But enough woe is me, let's get into some horror news with my absolute promise that soon I will be posting reviews again here!

The Purge: Election Year. We spoke about it last time. We're excited for it. But they've released new marketing and it's absolutely on point.

They released a new trailer that reads like a campaign video and it's priceless! Check it out here and here's the new poster:

I love this! As a Canadian watching on as America goes through their campaigning right now, I think this is a hilarious choice by The Purge and makes me love the franchise that much more.

Things with 10 Cloverfield Lane are just getting completely out of control in the best way possible. Including, a guy digging up a box and finding USB's inside that the studio planted in a damn field in the middle of nowhere. I'll stop updating about it until I see the film because it's too much to explain, but I'm following along closely, and you can too by checking out R/10cloverfieldlane

Rings has been pushed back once again until October of this year. I'm starting to lose faith/stop caring about this film. Just throw that shit on VOD and let us have what we want damnit!

There's talks of Stephen King's The Mist being turned into a tv show on Spike? Which....I don't love? The short story was flawless, the movie was even better...soooooo....let's just leave it? I guess King has given his blessings and Spike has given the pilot order for it. Christian Torpe and Dimension Films are involved. I just...do we really need another TV show about the "end of the world"? Because that's all I can really think of them doing. The Mist follows a group of people, specifically a son and his dad, as they are all trapped within a supermarket as a mist filled with monsters envelops the world around them. In the short story, the mist never ends, in the movie, the mist is clearing up. But either way they go, really all this is is another "post apocalyptic" type show. Booooooring.

Speaking of Stephen King (which I basically always am), I recently re-read Cell because they've made that into a movie but I'm hoping like freakin' crazy that it turns out well. I'd only read the book once before so I barely remembered anything from it when re-reading it. It's an absolutely great book that you can't put down. And it's still, in fact even more so, easy to relate to today. Starring Stacy Keach, Isabelle Fuhrman, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, Cell tells the story of a powerful signal that is broadcast across cell phone networks worldwide. All of the users' minds are instantly re-programmed. Clay survives this and heads off to search for his wife and son, picking up a rag tag group of survivors along the way. Stephen King himself wrote the screenplay so I'm so damn excited!!

I've also just started re-reading IT for the tenth or so time and even though the movie keeps getting pushed around and changing hands, I'm still so ready for this two part horror fest. Even if it takes four more years to make.

Alright, that's it for today. Again, I apologize for the lack of reviews, I'm the worst. I will get back to horror movies hopefully this weekend! And hopefully my stress level comes waaaaay down.

Stay spooky ya'll!
