Frightful Friday - Stephen King, The Purge and Alien!
WELCOME TO FRIGHTFUL FRIDAY!
You guys...I have had a week. I am so glad it's Friday night. I have a horror movie playing which hopefully I stay awake through and then I plan on doing nothing all weekend but make my way through my Netflix horror movie to-watch list. I also want to go see Get Out. But even though the movie theater is a ten minute walk from my house, I find it incredibly hard to find the energy to get there. But I've been craving movie theater popcorn for like a month now so I think that will help.
Let's jump right in - a lot has happened!
First off, and most important - we got a surprise announcement that changed my life forever....10 episodes are on their way for a TV show called Castle Rock based around the fictional Stephen King town.
OH and if that wasn't cool enough....it's from Hulu and Bad Robot. AKA JJ ABRAMS AND STEPHEN KING ARE REUNITING!!!!!!!
It's being called a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King universe. It will "weave an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland." It will be an original story, claiming the "first-of-its-kind re-imagining".
Castle Rock appeared in 1979 in The Dead Zone and keeps popping up, including 2014's Revival. The name itself is taken from a fictional mountain fort in Lord of the Flies. What else is set there? Oh you know, just Cujo, Needful Things, Gerald's Game, and The Stand just to name a few....SO MANY CHARACTERS AND STORIES. Fun side story - when my parents and I were driving to Florida one summer when I was about 15, I didn't realize Castle Rock wasn't real and I asked my parents if we could drive there. After looking at a map for a long time (the internet was not such a go-to back then OKAY) I realized Castle Rock was fake.
Anyway, it's being executive produced by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason who will also be the writers. Sources are saying it will "intertwine characters and themes from the works of Stephen King" and "subsequent seasons will feature a new set of characters and will tie in to previous characters and themes."
Right now there's no casting or premier date but production will begin this year.
THIS IS SO FUCKING EXCITING!!!!!!!! I don't why this Stephen King upheaval is happening this year but I am so goddamn here for it.
Watch the teaser trailer they released here:
There also lots of Alien Covenant news coming out as the movie creeps closer and closer. We got our first full cast photo:
And FOX released a sort of introductory prologue clip that introduces us to each character and lets us know that all of these people are on this ship because they are headed to colonize another planet. The crew is made up of romantic couples and of course their AI Walter.
This clip got me SO AMPED for this movie. I cannot wait to see this in theaters. Although I will admit I completely forgot James Franco was in this movie and it caught me off guard. I really can't stand him. Hopefully he dies quick?
We also got one more still of the film showing the crew arriving at a planet after receiving a distress signal.
Alien Covenant is released May 19th.
Remember last year when I got SUPER bummed that they wanted to turn The Purge franchise into a TV series? Well it looks like that idea's been put on the shelf because Blumhouse Productions has announced that they will be teaming up with Universal Pictures for another Purge film. A fourth in the franchise that will be released on July 4th, 2018. Obviously we don't have any casting news or a title but we do know writer and director of the first three Purge films James DeMonaco will be returning which is an amazing thing to happen. And I have full trust that this will be another amazing addition to the franchise. Purge is quickly becoming my favorite franchise. Except Scream. And Final Destination. But you know what I mean.
Obviously lots of others great things are happening in the horror world, and some not so great things (the Friday the 13th remake is once again cancelled) but these are my three favs and what I'm truly most excited for.
See you tomorrow for SPOOKY SATURDAY!

Day 1 - The Purge: Election Year - October Horror Movie Challenge
THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR (2016)
This is not a test, this is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the annual purge sanctioned by the U.S. government...
(There will be major spoilers so skip if you don't want to be spoiled)
Leo Barnes is back! After getting shot, stabbed and kidnapped during the Purge 2 years ago, he's back and more bad ass than ever. This time around he's tasked with protecting Senator Charlie Roan who's running for president with the number one promise being to end the purge.
When Charlie was young her whole family was kidnapped by a psychopath who played games with them and made up a "purge playlist" of his favorite tunes to play while he murdered them. In the end he made the mother choose who survived and killed the rest. Charlie was the only survivor.
The purge has gotten out of hand, more so than usual. America is in the midst of a change with two vastly different people running for president (sound familiar?). We have Charlie and we have Edwidge Owens, also known as the Minister. The Minister is working for the NFFA (new founding fathers of America) and they are determined to make him president so that he can keep the purge going. You see - the purge is good for business. It gets rid of the poor, it gets rid of the homeless, it keeps insurance rates high and it keeps health care low.
Charlie is making a wave with the people of America - they want change, they want freedom again and they're on her side. During a debate between Charlie and the Minister she makes the powerful statement, is murder our new religion? Because every purge, government leaders have a midnight purge mass where they murder druggies and low income people all in the name of the purge. But the NFFA are out to get Charlie this year, we're going to use this years purge to do some spring cleaning gentlemen. Every year one of the purge rules is that government officials are exempt and can't be touched, so this year the NFFA changes the rule, no citizen or group will be exempt.
Leo and Charlie know this change is made so that they can assassinate Charlie and end their problem. Charlie wants to stay home the night of the purge, to show the citizens that she is just like them, so Leo locks down her house and fills it with security instead of taking her to a government safe house. But unfortunately some of the security are working for the NFFA and so they let in some hired mercenaries to end her life. But Leo is the most prepared man in America (once again) and helps Charlie escape. But now they're out on the streets.
The other players in this movie are Joe Dixon, an older man who owns a deli, his worker Marcos and a young woman named Laney. They have a sort of separate story line going on at the beginning. Joe's insurance company calls him the day before the purge and ups his insurance rate by thousands of dollars which he can't afford. Which means he's without coverage on purge day. Just another show of how crooked the purge has become. So he sits up on his roof all night with Marcos, until they see Charlie and Leo being kidnapped and rescue them. Laney runs a triage vehicle all night during the purge, helping those she can. And Laney is SO FUCKING BAD ASS. There's a scene where she plows through a crowd of awful millennials trying to break into Joe's Deli and she doesn't even bat an eyelash. I love her so much.
Alright....so what did I love about this movie?
- The lore of the purge continues and we gain an even more deeper understanding of how people survive the purge.
- MURDER TOURISTS!!!!! - people who travel to America just to partake in the purge. How insane is that?!
- The purge scenes are more epic than ever - the costumes, the murders, the goddamn guillotine...
- The triage center made my heart swell. It's a safe place set up for the homeless, for children, for people who have nowhere safe to go. It was so beautiful and showed the true kindness that society still has for each other.
- The final showdown was SO intense I felt like I was holding my breathe the whole time.
- James DeMonaco has written and directed all three of these films which is basically unheard of but I love it.
What I didn't love?
- Laney's past was very secretive. This annoying millennial comes into Joe's Deli to shop lift but Laney stops her and she gets all star struck and calls Laney "little death". Then it's never really mentioned again. We get the vague idea she comes from a gang life but like....what?
- Leo gets shot at one point by the mercenaries and the bullet is in his shoulder, the mercenaries use this to trace him and find Leo and Charlie. This....seemed a little insane. Is this a thing? Traces put in bullets?!
- The final ending was kind of weak. It's just Marcos painting the deli and the news is on in the background and it announces Charlie is president and it's all yeyyyy! Then it cuts to a news caster voice saying that Purge enthusiasts are rioting in the streets and then it just cuts to black. It felt really weird. Like....it could've been so much more powerful but instead it felt panicky and rushed. Completely out of place for the rest of the movie.
- The NFFA mercenaries have Nazi symbols on their uniforms and "white power" stitched on their backs. This seemed a little over the top. AS IF the government would allow them to walk around like that. It's not Trump leading the way.
Overall -
I thought it was amazing. It was a great third act that's for sure. I think Anarchy remains my favorite of the three because it really flipped the franchise on its head. But Election Year was a great addition. I loved all the characters. Laney is who I want to grow up to be. Joe and Marcos are an adorable dynamic. Charlie managed to play sensitive politician without coming off cheesy. And Leo remains the most organized, violent individual, with a seemingly endless supply of black pea coats.
So what's next for The Purge?
Well, unfortunately, there's been talks of a TV show. Which I hate the idea of. I am so not on board for horror movies being turned into TV shows. Like....create your own horror show. Scream Queens I recently watched and it was AMAZING. Not what I expected at all. American Horror Story! This season is insane so far and I love it. Salem? So great. Penny Dreadful? So fucked up and great. There is no need to make horror movies into TV shows because they rarely work.
Good news though is that a 4th Purge is highly likely. And the rumors are it will be a prequel to the first three that will take us all the way back to how the NFFA was founded and what caused the purge to come into effect in the first place, and how it got so out of control.
I loved this film, I love this franchise, give me ten more please and thank you (but no TV show). Also, did you know there's fan fiction written about Leo and Charlie?! Seriously. I found some. I was looking for a friend....
A solid 10/10.
Stay spooky!

Most Likely to Die....OF BOREDOM...AYOOOOOOO
Hey guys!
October horror movie challenge is coming up quick and last night I finally scribbled together my game plan. It's subject to change because of so many reasons but at least I've got a basic outline now. I'm also busy planning this years' Halloween party at my job like I do every year...and this year we're doing Halloween Jeopardy!! Which I realized after I'd promised that, I actually had no idea how Jeopardy works. But I've got some time. We're also doing a costume competition for the first year ever. I can't believe October is next week. WHAT IS HAPPENING. But October also means I get to leave on my Hawaiian vacation (with my parents) and pretend I'm wealthy for two weeks (shout out to my parents for paying for this entire vacation) instead of pretending my cracked, infected tooth isn't such a big deal because I can't afford the dentist. HAHAHA....sobbing.
Also last night, my quest to get Mitch to like horror movies continued with me showing him The Purge: Anarchy. Obviously I'm a huge fan of the Purge franchise and can't wait to watch Election Year during the challenge. Mitch watched the original Purge with me last year and he enjoyed it a lot more so for the concept of the purge than for the film itself. But boy oh boy did he LOVE Anarchy. He even thanked me for showing it to him at the end which made me feel quite chuffed. Hopefully during this years' challenge he can find some more horror movies to love.
Anyway,
What I'm actually here to chat about is the steaming pile of garbage I just watched called Most Likely to Die. Luckily I was doing laundry while watching it, so it wasn't a total waste of my time.
Let's jump into it...
I saw the trailer for this awhile ago and I thought to myself it looks like someone trying to revive the 90's slasher trope. I was intrigued. Then I saw Perez Hilton was in it and was completely turned off by the whole thing. I get irritated with a lot of people but I rarely hate people. I HATE Perez Hilton. I had the unfortunate luxury to spend 4 weeks of my life watching him on Celebrity Big Brother for three hours a day and he is a TERRIBLE person. He is the definition of "vile".
But today while I was doing my laundry I thought, what the hell, maybe I'll give it a try. For all I know Perez is a great actor and I won't even be annoyed because he'll be a different character. I was wrong for thinking that. He is a terrible actor. He's an over-actor. And he basically just plays himself the whole time. There's a pretty important scene where his character reveals why he quit drinking and the tragic circumstances that led to it. It was delivered so badly and unemotionally, my dog could've done a better job.
Enough Perez bashing though because this film is filled with flaws.
First of all the premise is that a group of friends who were on the year book committee are reuniting the night before their 10-year high school reunion. They spend the first bit reminiscing on basically all the terrible things they did in high school including tormenting one particular guy, John. Then as the night goes on they start getting murdered one by one by someone dressed up in graduation garb and a mask that matches the scratched out, defaced senior picture of John in the yearbook, which was a prank the group pulled back in high school.
So what happened to this movie? It has all the trappings of a good slasher flick along with a great costumed killer, the likes of which we haven't seen in awhile. But there's too many characters which aren't introduced properly and you can't get close to any of them. The only character I liked was Gaby, played by Heather Morris, and that was only because she got the most screen time and I could actually keep track of who she was.
The actions of the characters made no sense. After the first murder they all start turning on each other immediately and keep accusing Ray, who I can't even keep track of who that is. And when Ray finally shows up at the end, I'd completely forgotten about him. In fact when writing this review I thought Ray was the name of the bullied kid, but I just re-watched the ending and turns out that kids name was John.
The kills were basically non-existence and watered down. If the kills had been more slasher esq, I would've enjoyed this movie a lot more. The only kill that got me back to paying attention was when the killer whips his graduation cap at one of the characters and it slices her throat open. Not sure how that happens but it was a great watch. Other than that? Nothing.
Most Likely to Die was written in the 90's during the slasher hay day but was shelved until now. I think if this movie had been given some more love and attention it could've been a great romp. But it was handled badly and cheaply and now we're left with this mess. Not even the "twist" ending could redeem it.

MOST LIKELY TO DIE (2015)

Garbage. Don't waste your time. Now I feel like I need to watch another horror movie to cleanse my pallet. Good lord.
Alright,
I'll be minimal on here until the challenge starts in 6 days and then I'll be here every day until you're sick of me.
Stay spooky!

The Smiling Man - STOP EVERYTHING AND WATCH IT
I'm interrupting your regularly scheduled programming to tell you to watch this horror short....because HOLY SHIT IS IT CREEPY AND PERFECT!!!
Seriously, the quality of shorts coming out lately are just blowing my mind. And if I were a smarter woman I would compile them into this blog for you to watch. But I am not that person. So instead you get to watch this one and then go find some more because WOW.
Debuting on Blumhouse today, The Smiling Man is a terrifying short written and directed by A.J. Briones, a visual effects artist. Recently it won quite a few amazing awards from going around the festival circuit including "Best Short Film" and "Best Director". The director himself describes this short as an "exercise in tension building" and wanted to be able to tell a story "purely with visuals".
He also describes it as "a woman's introduction into the world of men" which is a fascinating look at the world we live in today. There was a reddit thread awhile ago that asked women when was the first time they noticed men looking at them, the vast majority of them said they first experienced it around the age of 9 - 12. That is horrifying! Luckily, I grew up on very protected army bases and lived a wonderful sheltered childhood so I am grateful to never have experienced a leering man myself until I was in my late teens. This short is a great and sad play on our culture.
The director obviously prefers you get to view it with an audience and experience it properly so if you're lucky enough to be in the right area, The Smiling Man will be playing at Crypticon Seattle, International Horror Hotel, and Calgary Horror Con.
Watch the short below:
Yesterday graced us with a new trailer for The Purge which comes out very soon (July 1st) and oh boy I am so excited!! The slogan "Keep America Great" is such a fun play on Trump's terrifying "Make America Great Again" and the proud announcement of everyone in the trailer, "I Purged" is such a great marketing campaign. It seems to me each Purge movie gets better and better, they're finally finding their feet and they're just fucking sprinting with it now.
In the third chapter, over 12 hours of the annual purge, we watch as Leo Barnes (from The Purge Anarchy) tries to protect Senator Charlie Roan. Charlie is running her campaign on the idea of stopping the purge completely, but of course the higher ups don't want this to happen. While protecting Charlie during the evening of the purge, a betrayer in the team forces Charlie and Leo onto the streets as they attempt to survive the night.
The trailer shows us lots of new footage and the costumes in this sequel look just AMAZING! They're really going all out this time I think and it's going to be an absolute thrill ride to watch. Keep America great ya'll and don't forget to purge!
Check out the trailer here
Alright enjoy your weekend everyone! I have no money as usual so I plan to lay on the couch all weekend and watch some horror movies. Hopefully reviews soon!

In which I am stressed and blab on about Stephen King a lot
Hey guys,
I'm still alive, sorry for the lack of updates. What with the new pup in the house, worrying about having to move soon, constant money struggles, and a busy few weeks at work...I haven't found time to watch any horror films. And believe me I'm devastated about it. But enough woe is me, let's get into some horror news with my absolute promise that soon I will be posting reviews again here!
The Purge: Election Year. We spoke about it last time. We're excited for it. But they've released new marketing and it's absolutely on point.
They released a new trailer that reads like a campaign video and it's priceless! Check it out here and here's the new poster:
I love this! As a Canadian watching on as America goes through their campaigning right now, I think this is a hilarious choice by The Purge and makes me love the franchise that much more.
Things with 10 Cloverfield Lane are just getting completely out of control in the best way possible. Including, a guy digging up a box and finding USB's inside that the studio planted in a damn field in the middle of nowhere. I'll stop updating about it until I see the film because it's too much to explain, but I'm following along closely, and you can too by checking out R/10cloverfieldlane
Rings has been pushed back once again until October of this year. I'm starting to lose faith/stop caring about this film. Just throw that shit on VOD and let us have what we want damnit!
There's talks of Stephen King's The Mist being turned into a tv show on Spike? Which....I don't love? The short story was flawless, the movie was even better...soooooo....let's just leave it? I guess King has given his blessings and Spike has given the pilot order for it. Christian Torpe and Dimension Films are involved. I just...do we really need another TV show about the "end of the world"? Because that's all I can really think of them doing. The Mist follows a group of people, specifically a son and his dad, as they are all trapped within a supermarket as a mist filled with monsters envelops the world around them. In the short story, the mist never ends, in the movie, the mist is clearing up. But either way they go, really all this is is another "post apocalyptic" type show. Booooooring.
Speaking of Stephen King (which I basically always am), I recently re-read Cell because they've made that into a movie but I'm hoping like freakin' crazy that it turns out well. I'd only read the book once before so I barely remembered anything from it when re-reading it. It's an absolutely great book that you can't put down. And it's still, in fact even more so, easy to relate to today. Starring Stacy Keach, Isabelle Fuhrman, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, Cell tells the story of a powerful signal that is broadcast across cell phone networks worldwide. All of the users' minds are instantly re-programmed. Clay survives this and heads off to search for his wife and son, picking up a rag tag group of survivors along the way. Stephen King himself wrote the screenplay so I'm so damn excited!!
I've also just started re-reading IT for the tenth or so time and even though the movie keeps getting pushed around and changing hands, I'm still so ready for this two part horror fest. Even if it takes four more years to make.
Alright, that's it for today. Again, I apologize for the lack of reviews, I'm the worst. I will get back to horror movies hopefully this weekend! And hopefully my stress level comes waaaaay down.
Stay spooky ya'll!

Alright, that's it for today. Again, I apologize for the lack of reviews, I'm the worst. I will get back to horror movies hopefully this weekend! And hopefully my stress level comes waaaaay down.
Stay spooky ya'll!

Horror news and a casual stroll around an insane aslyum
HORROR NEWS ROUNDUP!!
The Purge: Election is here and it looks insane! I vaguely remember mentions of The Purge's second sequel but was happily surprised yesterday when the trailer dropped and we got a premier date. And a sub title! The Purge: Election.
And it looks to be just as violent and action oriented as the second. Frank Grillo returns in his role only this time it's to protect Senator Charlie Roan who is determined to end the annual purge while running for president. After a betrayal from inside their own team, the two face purge night alone and outside on the streets of Washington D.C.
It comes out July 1st and check out the trailer here
because I can never figure out how to embed videos here (if anyone can help, can you comment please?)
Next up is an exclusive from bloody disgusting....we've got a poster for JEEPERS CREEPERS THREE!!!!!!!!!!! They are filming early this year here in Vancouver so we won't see the movie for awhile, but that doesn't mean we can't start getting excited. This film will have Victor Salva returning, but none of us really care about that pedo. It also has Jonathan Breck returning as the creeper himself which is wonderful.
The third film will show the last day of the Creeper's feeding frenzy while Sergent Tubbs tries to end him for good.
And this....is the poster:
LOVE IT!
Last year I read the book Hostage to the Devil which tells the true stories of Exorcists. And now there is a documentary by the same name. It took 5 years to make and is directed by Marty Stalker. The documentary plays out the never ending debate of good versus evil and questions the existence of the Devil, all through the life of Malachi Martin, a controversial Jesuit priest.
Covering multiple countries, the documentary sits down with some great paranormal experts like Lorraine Warren and Ralph Sarchie. It will also have some interesting looking archival footage! The doc will go over, in graphic detail, the exorcisms that were performed, specifically that of a 4 year old girl. This was the last exorcism performed by Malachi before his suspicious death.
watch here
Also....there's a new 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer and the ending....MONSTER CALL!?!?!?!? I'm losing my mind waiting for this damn movie. Check it all out here
In my own life....Obie is here!!!!
My best friend and her boyfriend drove him down from Calgary. And yesterday the three of us went and explored the grounds of the abandoned insane aslyum here known as Riverview Hospital. It's also used in all kinds of horror films and shows like Supernatural and See No Evil 2. It was also the inspiration and setting for Grave Encounters 1 and 2. It was a tone of fun to walk around, and the grounds are absolutely massive, just filled with so many abandoned buildings. It's completely eerie. I took a few shots:
It was a tone of fun and if you are visiting here I highly recommend wandering around, but be prepared for a long walk.
Stay spooky!

DAY TWENTY-NINE - The Purge (horror movie challenge - 31 days of horror)
DAY TWENTY-NINE - THE PURGE (2013)
This movie gets me so excited! Such a damn original and awesome idea. In 2010 "The New Founding Fathers of America" established a new government and police state. They use the 28th amendment that establishes one night a year a purge will occur. This means all crime is legal and all emergency services are unavailable for 12 hours. So from 7pm until 7am there are no rules regarding the general public. The purge has caused crime and unemployment rates to plummet to 1% and created a strong economy.
James, who is played by Ethan Hawke, designs and sells elaborate security systems designed specifically for the Purge night. His family and himself are ready for the night of the Purge as they live in a very safe home. He has his wife Mary (Lena Headey) and his two kids. But this Purge, the son notices a wounded man outside calling for help, he makes a quick decision and allows the man inside the house. But unfortunately that wounded man was the target of a group of young adults who are wearing masks and wielding weapons, and they're pretty pissed that the family helped him escape the Purge. The leader warns them that if they don't surrender within an hour, the house will be broken into and everyone will be murdered. James then has to admit that although the house looks safe, it actually isn't any safer than the regular house, the system is used more as a deterrent than actually keeping you safe. And so the family has a tough decision to make, and 12 hours to fight for their lives.
The Purge was written and directed by James DeMonaco. Although it's not super scary as in "jump scares", it leaves you with a sense of dread that's hard to get out of a movie. There are scary moments, but they're stereotypical ones that any horror fan would spot from a mile away. The acting is on point and there's a bit of a twist at the end which I didn't see coming but enjoyed immensely.
There is a sequel, The Purge: Anarchy which I enjoyed almost even more. But the franchise is a great one, and I've heard rumblings of the third coming soon so jump onto the Purge bandwagon now! 8/10
Two more movies! Psycho and Halloween. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! (I might actually go to a halloween party tonight - shocking, I know.)
Stay spooky!

Watching Tusk, Annabelle, Ouija, and The Purge Anarchy
Welp I'm four movies into my list...LET'S TALK ABOUT THEM!
First up:
gif credit
The first...40 minutes? were perfect. That golden Kev Smith banter, those long winded but glorious conversations, gorgeous scenery, crazy attention to detail, and all around super fun. I loved every minute of it. Then Johnny Depp showed up and my bae lost me. I knew from the minute I heard the rumors that this was a terrible idea. Because as soon as Mr. Depp shows up it becomes a Johnny Depp film and caters to him. Johnny Depp only plays Johnny Depp in a costume nowadays and this is the same shit, different wig. Kev lost me as soon as this happened, he really did. I watched it all the way through and I'm sure I'll watch it again BUT I'm bummed.
And the movie itself is great, like I said, flawless script and exactly what I expected. The first 40 minutes I could watch over and over and over. But that one character choice....over it. (Super bummed knowing that character will back for Yoga Hosers....and I swear to GOD if he puts Johnny Depp in Moose Jaws, I quit [I won't quit, i love you Kevin, I will never quit you])
Would I recommend this to anyone? hell no. If you're a fan of Kevin Smith and a follower of smodcast, you've already seen this film. And if you are neither of those two previously listed things...this movie isn't for you. It's super niche. Don't worry about it.

The husband was really weird? I was convinced even when the movie finished that husband was possessed the entire time. What a weirdo. He was so off. I mean he wasn't possessed, and there was nothing wrong with him, butttt...I'm suspicious.

The dialogue was useless, the premise was over done. And like...how many movies are we going to have where people just show up at insane asylums and talk to the victims? Do insane asylums let anyone in these days?
"yeah, hey, my house is hella haunted and one of your patients probably knows something about it, i don't know them and i'm not related to them, that cool?"
"yeah it's cool, come on in"
Come on guys. OH and the fucking kid goes to research who died in the house and within seconds he's like "here's an article from 1940 about the mysterious death of a little girl...this is who's haunting our house"
WHAT?! What kind of voodoo google is he using?
Whatever, I'm over it.

Like I wanna talk about this movie so much but I can't form words about it. I just want to make a lot of hand motions and kind of grunt?

So yeah, good run so far except for Ouija which I will take to hell with me. Just making my way through the list and trying not to add too many more before I get confused. Enjoying horror movies again is giving me life. This last week and especially today has been just awful. That gypsy curse of mine is kicking back in lately and I think that's when I turn to horror movies the most. Because hey, my life may be shit, but at least I'm not being turned into a walrus, and at least the ghost in my house doesn't trap me in elevators. It could always be worse ~~

TUSK
My main man Kevin Smith wrote and directed this hot mess of a film. I spoke about it quite a bit in the original post but now I've seen it so here's where I'm at;The first...40 minutes? were perfect. ANNABELLE
Oh boy this movie was FUN! There weren't as many jump scares (barely any) as The Conjuring but the imagery that you're shown will stay with you a hella of a lot longer. I found myself going to bed that night (jk i watched it in bed, i'm a slob, but actually turning off the lights and going to sleep etc) and seeing certain moments in my mind and getting fuhreaked out. The story made sense mostly, it got a little confusing piecing the history together with the opening scene of The Conjuring but that might just be me. The imagery was stunning, the colors were so on point, and Annabelle managed to not cross that border into cheesy. It all felt so realistic. There's a scene where our main lady is hiding in an elevator and she keeps hitting the top floor and the elevator door will open but it's the basement every single time...OMG every time that door opened I was shitting myself. Loved the cult aspect a lot, I'm always complaining about the lack of good and scary cult movies (thank you for changing my life The Sacrament [and Red State baby!]). It also had a bit of a Rosemary's Baby vibe. The husband was really weird? I was convinced even when the movie finished that husband was possessed the entire time. What a weirdo. He was so off. I mean he wasn't possessed, and there was nothing wrong with him, butttt...I'm suspicious.

OUIJA
I mean...what do you wanna know about this movie? It's cliche. It's boring. It's frustratingly bad. It's filled with 25 year olds playing teenagers. I actually turned this off about 50 minutes in. And yeah, I made it that far, maybe I should've toughed it out but Netflix got Hoarders so....ya know...priorities.The dialogue was useless, the premise was over done. And like...how many movies are we going to have where people just show up at insane asylums and talk to the victims? Do insane asylums let anyone in these days?

THE PURGE: ANARCHY
Well this fucking movie blew all the others out of the water. Goddamn. This movie was SO GOOD. This one focuses way more on the class systems and the struggles of power between the classes and the government. And it's terrifying because you totally know if America ever put through a Purge, this is exactly what would go down. I loved having so many diverse characters (and not just a bunch of white people running around screaming), I loved all the takes on how different people in society purge. It had horrifying imagery, a few good jumps, but mostly it was just an edge of your seat thriller. AND OMG that ending. SUCH TENSION. MUCH EMOTION. I straight up cried. It was so satisfying and brilliant and I already want to watch it again. I love The Purge franchise and I can't wait for number three. And hey, maybe if they get a few more, it might replace Final Destination in my heart (but probably not).Like I wanna talk about this movie so much but I can't form words about it. I just want to make a lot of hand motions and kind of grunt?
