Day 12 - Leprechaun - October Horror Movie Challenge

LEPRECHAUN (1993)

Try as they will, and try as they might, who steals me gold won't live through the night.

(There will be major spoilers so skip if you don't want to be spoiled)

Mr. O'Grady has arrived home drunk as fuck and his wife is not thrilled. He's going on and on about how he caught a leprechaun and stolen his gold. Mrs. O'Grady obviously doesn't believe him but is then killed by said leprechaun. Mr. O'Grady locks the leprechaun in a crate and that's the end of that.

Flash forward ~~
Tory has just moved to New Mexico with her father and they have bought the old O'Grady house. Tory is miserable and wants to go back to Malibu but is soon greeted by Nathan who is working on the house and she quickly changes her mind. Nathan runs a painting company with his younger brother Alex and Ozzie who is a Forrest Gump level of intelligence man.

Ozzie discovers the leprechaun in the basement in the crate and lets him free, but when he tells everyone else they obviously don't believe him. Soon after Alex and Ozzie see a rainbow and they go and see if they can find the end of it. The end is in a rusted abandoned truck that belonged to O'Grady and inside they find the leprechaun gold.

But now the leprechaun is loose and looking for his gold, and he'll kill anyone to get it back...

Alright...so what did I love about this movie?
  • Not much. I think I should've watched this in the 90's. It's supposed to be a horror comedy but it just wasn't funny.
  • I did like Alex a lot, he was a bad ass little kid.
  • The pogo stick kill was fun!
What I didn't love?
  • A 4 leaf clover is the one thing that can destroy a leprechaun?! WTF?!
  • Why does the leprechaun keep cleaning shoes? What is that all about?

Overall?

I just have so many questions about this movie and the leprechaun is super irritating.

I wanted to love it, I wanted to get the joke, but I didn't, and it was boring and annoying annnnndddddd yeah.

3/10
